Please welcome our four new clinical research summer medical students. They will be mentored by our doctors, Dr. Dillman, Dr. Trout, Dr. Morin, and Dr. Ayyala.
Anna Guan
My name is Anna Guan, and I grew up in Cincinnati and San Diego. In Cincinnati, I enjoyed living in a tight-knit community and being a part of the music scene (I was trained in violin and piano here). In Southern California, I adore exploring all the different foods and cultures that are easily accessible and going on hikes around ocean bluffs and the beach.
I decided to pursue the medical field because I was raised mostly by my grandmother, who lost one arm to cancer. Her story has a positive outcome however—the arm amputation ended up allowing her to outlive a terminal cancer diagnosis by nearly 18 years! After college, I served in the Peace Corps in Senegal, which taught me how medical providers could deliver care to structurally isolated populations and their critical roles in community health. I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a BS in Biology, and the University of Cincinnati with a MS in Physiology.
Over the summer, I will be mentored by Dr. Jonathan Dillman. We are working on a project in pediatric MRI safety events and outcomes.
My hobbies include cooking, traveling, and learning languages. I am fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Mandarin, and Wolof. I am currently working on strengthening my French.
Katy Mevis
Katherine “Katy” Mevis is a student at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UCCOM), originally from Westerville, OH. She graduated from Miami University in 2024 with a degree in biomedical engineering. Katy was drawn to medicine because it allows her to combine the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of engineering with the opportunity to make a direct and meaningful impact on patient care.
This summer, Katy’s faculty mentor is Dr. Trout. The research project she will be working on is investigating the utility of PET imaging in the diagnosis and monitoring of osteosarcoma.
Outside of academics, Katy enjoys running and strength training. She is copresident of the UCCOM Run Club and has enjoyed organizing runs and events during her first year of medical school.
Katie Donohoe
Hi everyone, my name is Kathryn Donohoe, but I go by Katie.
I grew up just outside of Boulder, Colorado. It probably comes as no surprise then that my favorite activities to do there were hiking and skiing! Although there is still some great hiking around Cincinnati, I definitely miss the big mountains for skiing!
I’ve always been fascinated with working in the medical field. After completing my undergraduate degree in Vancouver, I chose to stick around and work in pulmonary and critical care research. I had some really great experiences with the patients and doctors during that time, which inspired me to pursue becoming a physician. It’s been really exciting to return to research this summer and apply everything we’ve learned from our first year in medical school.
My mentors are Dr. Morin and Dr. Walkup. We will be reviewing the clinical implementation of the Xenon MRI program at Cincinnati Children’s and comparing its technical success to PFTs and dual-phase CT scans.
I love to be outside, whether it’s for running or hiking. My favorite hike since I’ve moved here would probably be Mount Le Conte!
Olivia Heltman
Olivia Heltman was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, and has enjoyed witnessing the growth and transformation of her hometown into a vibrant community. Olivia completed her undergraduate studies in public health at the University of Cincinnati.
“My interest in medicine began at a very young age after exposure to a career in surgery. This exposure highlighted the reaching impact physicians have in a patient’s life. I am so grateful to be receiving a portion of my training here in Cincinnati, and I look forward to having an opportunity to provide care for members of my community one day.”
Her faculty mentor is Dr. Ayyala. The research project she will be working on is “Role of Pediatric Appendicitis Scoring Systems in Utilization of MRI for Evaluation of Appendicitis.”
Olivia enjoys all things Cincinnati sports and likes to play pickleball in her free time.
We’re thrilled to welcome Anna, Katy, Katie, and Olivia to our Radiology team this summer. Each of them brings a unique background, passion for medicine, and a strong commitment to improving pediatric health through research. We look forward to seeing their growth, contributions, and the impact of their projects under the guidance of their dedicated mentors.
Please join us in supporting and encouraging these future physicians as they embark on this exciting chapter of their medical journey!
