Richard Liu
Richard Liu is from Guelph, Ontario. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in systems biology and modeling. He was drawn to medicine by the appeal of directly contributing to patient care. He is working with Dr. Dillman in the “Classification of Crohn’s Disease from MRI Using Machine Learning.” In his free time, he enjoys cooking and the outdoors.
Trey Baird
I am Trey Baird and I’m originally from Columbus, OH. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and minor studies in Global Public Health.
Originally interested in psychiatry, I wanted to study medicine to play a role in shaping how we care for and stabilize these patients. As I have continued on this journey, I have grown to enjoy the daily challenge medicine poses to those who study it and am still exploring what field within medicine I want to pursue.
I am working with Dr. Shireen Hayatghaibi to perform a “Preliminary Scoping Review of the Academic Literature Centered on Previous Measures of Patient Preferences Within the Context of Diagnostic Imaging.” We hope this research will set the stage for future studies that will begin a shift in medicine to create a more patient-centered approach to selecting appropriate imaging studies.
I enjoy watching movies with a particular interest in Academy Award winners, following and playing sports including basketball and football, and traveling with my friends.
Ayush Prasad
Ayush Prasad is from Northeastern Kentucky (Flatwoods, KY). From there he enrolled at Johns Hopkins University and graduated with a B.A. in Biophysics
“I am excited by the opportunities in medicine to leverage the power of my interests in computing, research, and education to pursue and accelerate creative solutions to health issues and disparities.”
His faculty mentors will be Dr. Dillman and Dr. Trout. The research project he will be working on is “Predicting clinical outcomes using MRI and machine learning in surgically repaired single ventricle congenital heart disease patients.”
In his off time, he likes playing tennis, watching his favorite basketball and football teams, and listening to podcasts.
Molly Carroll
Molly Carrol is from Chagrin Falls, OH (a suburb of Cleveland). She enrolled at Miami University and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science
“My dad is a paramedic and my mom a physical therapist, which is what initially sparked my interest in medicine. I knew that I wanted to be in a field that would allow me to constantly learn and problem solve, all while making a positive impact on patients’ lives. I briefly considered a career in healthcare technology, but after a summer internship, I knew I wanted to be closer to the patient and decided to continue on to medical school.”
Dr. Fleck is her faculty mentor this summer. The research project she will be working on is “Tricuspid valve compression and its relation to cardiac function in patients with pectus excavatum.”
For her hobbies she likes spending time in the outdoors/playing sports (tennis, pickleball, volleyball), cooking, spending time with friends, and music.
Karan Ravi
Karan Ravi, unlike the rest of the Clinical Research summer students, is not a UC medical student. He actually attends the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Biology.
Technically he grew up in Raleigh, NC, but his mom has lived in Loveland, OH, for the last 7 years. His fond memories in Loveland include biking the Loveland bike trail. Karan knew he was going to be in Cincinnati over the summer, so he looked for opportunities at UC, which is how he found the Summer Research Program.
“I chose medicine because it offers the perfect opportunity to channel my interest in science, problem solve, and building relationships with patients.”
His faculty mentor will be Dr. Nara Higano. The research project he will be working on is “Comparing Clinical Value of MRI to Standard X-rays in Evaluating Lung Hyperinflation in Preterm Infants.”
His hobbies are disc golf, cycling, and watching sports.
Meredith Towbin, copy editor
Glenn Miñano is a media specialist in the Department of Radiology, providing graphic design, photography, printing, video services, and administration of the department’s online properties. His works have been published in several medical articles, such as the American Journal of Radiology and the American Institute of Ultrasound. He has been providing these services to the Radiology Department since 1996.
