This summer, we are thrilled to welcome an exceptional group of medical clinical research students to the Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s. Each student brings a unique background, a passion for discovery, and a shared commitment to advancing pediatric care through research and innovation.
Let’s get to know the talented individuals joining us this year.

Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Alex Brooke brings both a spirit of adventure and a strong academic foundation to the program. Growing up, one of her most unforgettable experiences was a multiday canoe trip with her dad through Alaskan bear country, an adventure that speaks to her resilience and curiosity. She also fondly remembers enjoying fresh salmon and halibut—staples of life in Alaska.
Alex completed her undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Alaska Fairbanks before moving to Cincinnati to pursue a PhD in chemistry. During her graduate studies, she discovered that her greatest fulfillment came from research that directly impacts patient care, which ultimately inspired her transition into medical school.
This summer, Alex is working with Dr. Jonathan Dillman on a research project examining the long-term outcomes and clinical significance of incidentally detected solitary renal cysts in children. Her work aims to better understand how these findings influence pediatric health over time.

Sydney Seeto recently made the move to Cincinnati from Dublin, Ohio, after graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree in pharmaceutical sciences. During her time at OSU, she enjoyed exploring the city’s evolving landscape and attending unforgettable Buckeye football games.
Her interest in medicine took shape during her undergraduate years, where she discovered a passion for the field that continues to grow.
This summer, Sydney is working alongside Dr. Alex Towbin on an innovative project investigating a “salt-and-pepper” morphology in the spleens of patients with tuberous sclerosis. Using advanced techniques such as segmentation and radiomics, her research aims to uncover new insights into imaging patterns and their clinical significance.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Sydney enjoys drawing, painting, traveling, and has recently taken up Pilates.

Abraar Huq has a diverse perspective shaped by experiences in both Dallas, Texas, and Centerville, Ohio. Growing up, he enjoyed everything from Dallas Mavericks games to visits to the Stockyards, along with sampling some of the city’s renowned barbecue.
His decision to pursue medicine stems from a deep interest in the intersection of service and innovation: “Being in service to others while also constantly pushing yourself to deliver better care really spoke to me.”
This summer, Abraar is collaborating with Dr. Cara Morin and Dr. Aki Tanimoto on a project focused on bronchiolitis obliterans, a serious pulmonary complication that can occur in children undergoing bone marrow transplants. His research contributes to improving understanding and outcomes for this complex condition.
Outside of academics, Abraar enjoys playing basketball, watching sports, traveling, cooking, and exploring new food spots.

Hailing from Bellbrook, Ohio, near Dayton, Alissa Warren has always felt at home in the outdoors. Some of her favorite hometown memories include exploring creeks and trail running through local parks, experiences that nurtured her appreciation for exploration and discovery.
Alissa completed her undergraduate degree in medical sciences at the University of Cincinnati and chose to continue her journey there in medical school. Her path into medicine was driven by a love of problem-solving combined with firsthand experiences that highlighted the powerful blend of compassion and innovation in healthcare. Her work as both a patient care assistant and a research assistant in developmental biology solidified her commitment to the field.
This summer, Alissa is working with Dr. Robert Fleck on a project investigating outcomes of tracheomalacia, contributing to a deeper understanding of this condition and its impact on pediatric patients.
In her free time, Alissa enjoys knitting, crochet, and singing in the UCCOM chorus.
We are excited to have Alex, Sydney, Abraar, and Alissa join our Radiology Department this summer. Their diverse experiences, dedication to research, and passion for improving patient care will undoubtedly make a meaningful impact.
