Cincinnati Children’s Recognizes 2023 Radiology Week

A letter written by our Radiologist-in-Chief, Dr. Brian Coley, to the Department of Radiology at Cincinnati Children’s:

On November 8, 1895, Roentgen made the discovery that eventually would lead to the broad and diverse field in which we spend our professional lives. From the first fuzzy images that took exposures of up to an hour, we now have high-resolution radiographic images available in seconds; we have fluoroscopy; and we have ultrasound, CT, MRI, molecular imaging, and interventional radiology. Performing nearly 250,000 exams every year (and who knows how many individual images that is), we help to discover if children are sick or injured. We help to direct their treatments. We are an integral part of making them healthy and well.

We are arguably the overall best pediatric imaging department in this country. We are leaders in patient care, dose reduction, patient safety, process improvement, education, research and discovery, and patient experience. From the front desk to the imaging suites to the reading room to the research labs, your dedication and work is making a difference in the lives of the patients entrusted to our care.

We are increasingly busier, but sometime this week I hope that you will take a moment to think about a patient and family that you helped, or a colleague that you supported or shared a laugh with. We are all interconnected, and everyone’s role in the department is important. And that includes you.

Every year we celebrate this one week in early November, have some food, and get some swag. You are appreciated by me and your coworkers every day throughout the year. Thank you for bringing your skill and your heart to work every day. You make us the remarkable department that we are now and are the reason that we will be even better in the future.

Thank you,

Brian Coley
