Hello! My name is Leah (Gilligan) Scheller, and I am one of the new pediatric radiology fellows. I am a Cincinnati native and grew up in Hyde Park. My favorite memories from childhood include nightly home-cooked family dinners, regular walks to Graeter’s for ice cream (where I later on I got my first job during high school), celebrating Christmas Eve at my grandma’s with the Italian tradition of the Feast of Seven Fishes, and family vacations in Boca Grande, Florida.
I decided to become a doctor when I was in grade school and my cousin was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. After visiting her in the hospital and learning about her diagnosis, I realized that I enjoy understanding the inner workings of the human body and using that knowledge to help others.
My journey has brought me to a variety of places, but I have been fortunate to make my way back to Cincy at several points. I spent four years at Boston College for undergrad, followed by medical school at the University of Cincinnati and, later, radiology residency at Northwestern in Chicago. Between medical school and radiology residency, I spent a year at Cincinnati Children’s as a research fellow, during which I worked with several pediatric radiologists studying a variety of diseases and imaging techniques.
In my free time I enjoy knitting; reading (audiobooks); running; yoga; watching TV; cooking; baking; trying new restaurants; and spending quality time with my husband, family, and friends. I recently got married, and we had the trip of a lifetime on our honeymoon in South Africa and Mauritius.
I am immensely grateful to be back at Cincinnati Children’s, now as a clinical fellow, and look forward to learning from leaders in the field and helping care for children and their families.
