Dr. George Koberlein is a new addition to our Radiology family, but he’s no stranger to our department. It’s more of a homecoming for him because Dr. Koberlein was a 2014 radiology pediatric clinical fellow.
Upon completion of his fellowship, he obtained a staff position at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he was employed as a pediatric radiologist at the Brenner Children’s Hospital. He was able to use the valuable diagnostic skills that he learned during fellowship on a daily basis, across various imaging modalities. Dr. Koberlein was also instrumental in educating residents, developing lectures for the radiology residents as well as rotating clinical physicians. He presented at regional meetings regarding pediatric trauma imaging and child abuse, and served as the radiology representative for the Pediatric Trauma Multidisciplinary Council, in which he aided in the re-accreditation of their Level-1 trauma center.

He feels fortunate to be offered the opportunity to return to Cincinnati Children’s and assist in developing the Emergency Imaging division. Building upon the skills he had acquired while was a fellow at Cincinnati Children’s and staff member at Brenner Children’s, he looks forward to working again with all of the excellent staff, fellows, residents, technologist and sonographers.
On a personal note, Dr. Koberlein has three daughters, Caleana (8), Amalae (6) and Liesl (3) with wife Junell. They will be welcoming their fourth child Dietrich Alois (their first son). His daughters stated they were most excited about playing in the snow again. Junell plans to return to her previous employer, Mercy Health, where she worked as a family medicine physician.
