You may have already experienced all the hard work and team effort we put forth as technologists in the radiology department at Cincinnati Children’s, but our job doesn’t stop there. We instruct dozens of college students to perform the very same tasks they will be expected to do in their future careers.
We do not hide our students; in fact, we encourage them to get involved to truly understand what they are executing, and because of this you have probably interacted with a few students yourself. In our opinion there is no better way to learn than to feel as if you are a part of the team, which means completing each step along the way (with constant experienced supervision).
Cincinnati Children’s does not have an isolated connection with just one school; we have students of all ages and from all over the Tri-State area and beyond. Some colleges currently teaming up with the hospital are University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati State, Xavier University, and several other institutions throughout Greater Cincinnati. This partnership benefits both teacher and student, as occasionally we even pick up a thing or two from our pupils.
I cannot explain to you in words how grateful I am for such an amazing teaching program here at Cincinnati Children’s, because I was once one of those eager students encouraged to be my best. Upon entering my program at school, I wasn’t quite sure whether a children’s hospital was something I would feel comfortable with, but after my first scan completion, I knew there was nowhere else I wanted be. Luckily, I was granted a position upon graduation and haven’t looked back since. Cincinnati Children’s will never know how much their emphasis on teaching personally means to me, but I hope to repay them one wonderful patient at a time.
