Eric Byard, RN, Awarded Radiology Safety Award

In an effort to keep all Cincinnati Children’s Radiology practices safe and on par with the most recent policies, we created a Radiology Safety Award as motivation to go above and beyond. Every quarter one of our radiology employees receives a safety award to honor and highlight their phenomenal achievements in safety and patient care. This particular nomination is chosen from a group of personnel who have been acknowledged by their fellow peers or upper management as being a leader in safety situations, an advocate for the patient, and someone who ultimately changes the outcome.

As you can imagine, the Radiology Department is full of eager employees and individuals more than willing to break an extra sweat to ensure the highest level of safety possible. This makes the task of selecting the Safety Award recipient even more challenging and rewarding. As of this quarter (2016 Q4), the Radiology Safety Award Winner is one of our fantastic nurses, Eric Byard. Eric has been working as a registered nurse with the Anesthesia department in collaboration with Radiology since 2014, and he had worked as a CSR/Reading Room Assistant in Radiology while attending nursing school prior to his current position. Eric knows the department quite well, but it was his willingness to do more than what is asked of him that proved him worthy of the award. Here are a few things mentioned about Eric Byard’s excellent work:

“Eric was integral in the discussion and planning…Thanks to a well prepared team, safe, efficient care was provided the day of this patient’s MRI.”

“Eric brought this safety concern to the anesthesiologist. Instead of rescheduling for another day and inconveniencing the family and patient, we were able to work the patient into a GA spot for later the same day. Eric took time and patience with the patient and family. Way to go, Eric!”

These are just some of the positive feedback comments Eric has received throughout the quarter. His consecutive praise supports the decision to honor him with a Radiology Safety Award plaque. Every three months the slates are wiped clean and there will be a new employee awarded. Although we will have another recipient before we know it, the work that Eric Byard has accomplished and his effect on patient care and safety will always be remembered. Thank you, Eric, for living the Cincinnati Children’s model and going above and beyond.
