Meet April Burton: Inspired by Care, Driven by Connection

At Cincinnati Children’s Radiology, every team member brings a unique story and passion to their role, and April Burton is no exception. As an X-ray technologist and UC student clinical preceptor, April combines her technical expertise with a genuine love for working with kids, creating meaningful experiences for patients and families alike.

April’s journey began far from Cincinnati. She was born in Seoul, South Korea, and adopted at just four months old. She grew up in Blanchester, Ohio, where her childhood was filled with simple, joyful moments that shaped who she is today.

Summers at the local swim club, riding bikes, Rollerblading through town, and celebrating the Fourth of July parade are some of her favorite memories. During high school, April also stayed active in her community, participating in color guard and playing tennis.

April’s journey into the medical field was deeply personal. While in high school, her grandmother underwent radiation therapy for breast cancer, spending significant time with radiology technologists. Seeing the compassion and care her grandmother received—and the positive impact of her treatment—inspired April to follow a similar path: “It inspired me to pursue the radiology field so I could one day be a part of somebody’s health journey.” Today, she fulfills that goal by supporting patients during critical moments in their care, offering both technical skills and heartfelt reassurance.

For April, working in pediatrics was always the goal. “Kids are so fun and awesome to work with,” she says. “Their interactions and storytelling really brighten up my day.” In her role as an X-ray technologist, April plays a key part in diagnosing and monitoring patients. She also serves as a clinical preceptor, mentoring University of Cincinnati students as they gain hands-on experience in the field. Her dual role allows her to not only care for patients but also help shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.

When she’s not at work, April enjoys spending time with her two dogs, along with friends and family. She loves to stay active and engaged, whether that’s traveling to new places; attending concerts; cheering on the Reds, Bengals, and FC Cincinnati; or exploring new restaurants. She also enjoys quieter moments, like reading, working on puzzles, and watching documentaries.

Currently, April is diving into the popular A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. The most recent movie she watched was Reminders of Him.
