Lynann Newsom Joins Cincinnati Children’s as a Sonographer

My name is Lynann Newsom and I’m a new sonographer at Cincinnati Children’s. I chose to work at Children’s because I love kids and feel that I have the best opportunity to help others at Children’s. I also was a patient at Children’s when I was younger, and my second child is now seen at Children’s after being diagnosed with celiac disease at 2½ years old.

It’s rather strange how I got into the medical field. I started college as an architectural engineering student at UC but ended up in UC hospital with what doctors originally thought was meningitis. I spent a month there, and during that time, a very close friend of mine was in a bad car accident and became paralyzed. Once I was no longer a patient, I spent a lot of time at the hospital visiting him. I chose to become an EMT in 2014 and later became a medical assistant in 2017. I then chose to go to school for ultrasound.

I was born in San Diego California as both my parents were in the Navy and stationed there. We lived there until I was in fourth grade and then, due to my parents being stationed in Michigan and Virginia, we moved to southern Ohio where my grandma lived. My husband was born in Phoenix, AZ, and was raised there and in Oklahoma until he was a teenager before moving to Ohio with his mom. We met when we were in our early twenties and now have an 8-year-old girl, a 4-year-old girl, and another girl due in February. We live in Brown County Ohio in the village of Sardinia on a small farm with our dogs, ducks, geese, fainting goats, and guinea fowl…I know, it can be a lot. I am very grateful for the help from my grandma and in-laws who live with us.

I enjoy reading, though most of my reading ends up being with my kids, and the “reading” that I do end up doing for myself is via Audible while I drive to and from work. We are currently reading Harry Potter. I also enjoy gardening and playing outside with animals and my kids, though I will not deny that I do have those days where I love to lay on the couch and binge-watch random shows. My girls and I love to do arts and crafts, especially painting. We also love to spend a bunch of our free time lounging out at our pool or swimming.

I look forward to learning and growing as a sonographer at Cincinnati Children’s. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me!
