I Just Finished My Ultrasound Exam, Now What?

In general, most ultrasound patients can resume normal activities after their ultrasound. In limited cases they may be asked to stay in the Radiology department and speak to their ordering physician for further instructions. The Reading Room Assistants coordinate getting their provider on the phone.

As far as results go, we do advise them that the results will be sent to their ordering provider and will be available on MyChart as well. We hand out cards that cover how to get results from any radiology exam. The wording we are adding to our new patient itineraries pretty much mirrors those cards and is as follows:

How to View Your Radiology Test Results and Images

There are a few different ways to learn about your Radiology test results.

• Images and results can be found online in MyChart, which offers secure online access to portions of your child’s medical record at Cincinnati Children’s.
• Results are released to MyChart between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM, 365 days a year.
• Radiology results are usually available within 24 hours.
• Results will also be sent to your physician’s office.
• Please Note: Results may be available in MyChart before they have been reviewed by your physician and care team.  Please wait for your physician’s assessment to help interpret these findings.
