Cincinnati Children’s Radiology Welcomes New Advanced MRI Scanner to Enhance Pediatric Imaging

Last September, the Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s welcomed its newest MRI scanner, which replaced an existing 3T system. The scanner is scheduled to begin imaging patients on November 9 and represents a significant investment in advanced pediatric imaging capabilities.

Designed with children and families in mind, the new MRI system offers a more comfortable and patient-friendly experience. Its wider scanner opening helps create a less confining environment, while highly adaptable receiver technology can accommodate patients of different sizes more comfortably. These enhancements can help reduce anxiety and improve the overall experience for children undergoing MRI examinations.

The scanner also incorporates advanced artificial intelligence and accelerated imaging technologies that allow many studies to be completed more efficiently without compromising image quality. Shorter exam times mean children spend less time in the scanner, which can reduce stress for patients and families while also decreasing the likelihood of motion-related image degradation that can require repeat imaging.

For MRI technologists, the new system introduces sophisticated automation and workflow enhancements that simplify exam setup and image acquisition. Flexible imaging hardware, intelligent patient positioning tools, and advanced reconstruction software help streamline scanning processes, reduce manual adjustments, and improve consistency across examinations. These efficiencies allow technologists to focus more on patient care while supporting a smoother imaging workflow.

The new MRI scanner provides exceptional image quality and advanced diagnostic capabilities across a wide range of pediatric applications. Enhanced imaging performance helps radiologists visualize anatomy and disease processes with greater clarity and confidence, supporting accurate diagnoses and treatment planning for children with complex medical conditions.

As patient volumes continue to grow, the scanner’s faster imaging capabilities and streamlined workflow will help improve access to MRI services by increasing efficiency and reducing scheduling bottlenecks. This investment reinforces Cincinnati Children’s Radiology’s commitment to providing leading-edge technology that enhances the experience of patients and families while supporting the highest standards of pediatric imaging care.

The new MRI platform brings together faster examinations, greater patient comfort, improved workflow efficiency, and advanced diagnostic performance, helping Cincinnati Children’s deliver an exceptional imaging experience while supporting outstanding clinical care for the children and families it serves.
