I grew up on James Island in Charleston, South Carolina, before moving to Cincinnati when I was 16. At the risk of dating myself, this was a time before we spent quite so much of our lives staring at screens, when you actually had to use your legs to pedal your bike to a friend’s house, dodge a few dinosaurs along the way, and ask if they could come out and play. I spent my childhood going on adventures with my gang…er…my younger sister and the three girls who lived next door. (What?!? We ruled Harbor Woods!) We explored the woods around our neighborhood, fueled by candy and Little Debbie’s from the corner store. I also loved boating and fishing with my family and riding my bike to my grandmother’s house on Sundays to watch old movies.
Despite having many family members in medicine, I didn’t become interested in the medical field until my dad’s experience with cancer. Watching what a difference kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional healthcare workers could make in the lives of a patient and their family during such a difficult time had a lasting impact on me. It showed me that caring for someone involves much more than treating an illness—it’s also about being there for people when they need it most.
I currently work as a nurse in Anesthesia Imaging at Cincinnati Children’s. My primary duty is, of course, to never hit the quench button. More seriously, I’m excited to continue my journey at Cincinnati Children’s working alongside a team that is passionate about caring for children and their families.
Outside of work, I’m a bit of a homebody. I enjoy reading and watching movies, but I’m always willing to venture out for good pizza and ice cream—lactose intolerance can kick rocks! I also LOVE cinnamon rolls and am always on the hunt for a great cinnamon roll in the ’Nati, so recommendations are always welcome.
The last book I read was Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, which I thought was solid. The last movie I watched was In the Grey, which was…meh. On the other hand, Project Hail Mary was great!
Glenn Miñano is a media specialist in the Department of Radiology, providing graphic design, photography, printing, video services, and administration of the department’s online properties. His works have been published in several medical articles, such as the American Journal of Radiology and the American Institute of Ultrasound. He has been providing these services to the Radiology Department since 1996.
