Meet Kevin Mason: Radiology Clinical Fellow, Class of 2026

Kevin Mason, a clinical radiology fellow at Cincinnati Children’s, is part of the Radiology Class of 2026. Though not born in the city itself, Kevin proudly calls Northern Kentucky home. He grew up across different parts of NKY but claims Highlands High School as his alma mater—a familiar reference point in response to Cincinnati’s favorite question: “Where did you go to high school?”

Growing Up in Northern Kentucky

Kevin’s childhood was filled with outdoor adventures and community activities that helped shape who he is today. He fondly recalls spending countless hours playing baseball throughout Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio. Summers often meant trips to Kings Island, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, or paddling along the Little Miami River by kayak or canoe. These experiences left lasting memories of connection, fun, and the beauty of the region.

Inspiration for Medicine

Kevin’s journey into medicine started early. His pediatrician had a knack for making him laugh during visits, which helped remove any fear of going to the doctor. Over time, Kevin realized he wanted to bring that same sense of comfort and care to others. His desire to help people—especially children who cannot always help themselves—became a driving force in his career choice.

Another motivation for Kevin is his passion for innovation. He appreciates how medicine is constantly evolving, often leading the way in technology. Being part of a field that blends patient care with cutting-edgeadvancements is something he finds both exciting and rewarding.

Why Cincinnati Children’s?

Kevin’s connection to Cincinnati Children’s began in high school. Alongside his mom, he volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, preparing rooms for families, stocking kitchen areas, and seeing firsthand how the organization supported families with critically ill children. That experience gave him a glimpse into the hospital’s mission and values: integrity, compassion, and dedication.

Since then, Kevin had always hoped to become part of the Cincinnati Children’s team. Now, as he walks the hospital halls as a fellow, he feels grateful and proud to represent the institution. Seeing patients and families from all over the world serves as a daily reminder of why he pursued this path and what his work means to the people he serves.

Role in the Department

As a clinical fellow, Kevin interprets imaging studies and creates high-quality reports for referring providers, patients, and their families. His work plays a crucial role in helping build comprehensive medical treatment plans that improve patient outcomes.

Life Beyond Medicine

Outside of the hospital, Kevin enjoys staying active and curious. He loves hiking and walking outdoors, and whenever possible, he heads to the mountains to recharge. He’s an avid reader of autobiographies, business books, and economic analyses, and he enjoys staying up-to-date with the latest economic news and policies. Kevin also prioritizes fitness, lifting weights regularly as part of his routine.

Recent Reads and Favorites

Kevin recently finished Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda and is currently reading Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip Heath and Dan Heath, while also making progress through Capital Wars: The Rise of Global Liquidity by Michael Howell. When it comes to movies, the last film he watched was the classic crime drama The Departed

Looking Ahead

With his dedication to radiology, his compassion for patients and families, and his enthusiasm for lifelong learning, Kevin Mason is making a meaningful impact at Cincinnati Children’s. His journey from Northern Kentucky to the halls of one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals reflects both his personal drive and his deep connection to the community he calls home.
