Meet Guillermo Alfonso, Jr., or “Mito” as friends and family call him—a nod to his name’s junior form, “Little Guillermo.” Born in Miami, Florida, Mito’s early years were spent in the small town of Rockledge, near Cocoa Beach, where he developed a deep affection for sports and Disney World. His formative years were marked by frequent visits to Miami’s sporting events and the magical realms of Disney, a passion he carries with him to this day.
Mito’s educational journey began at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where he embarked on his college career before heading to the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in South Carolina for medical school. During this time, he met his wife, who hails from Arizona. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Arizona for Mito’s residency, further enriching his journey in medicine.
His path to the medical field was solidified during a college volunteer experience at a local hospital. Despite initially changing his major multiple times, Mito found his calling in medicine, drawn to a career that would challenge him, ignite his passion, and enable him to make a meaningful impact on others’ lives.
Today, Mito is a pediatric radiology fellow at Cincinnati Children’s, a choice he made for several compelling reasons. The hospital’s stellar reputation in pediatric care and medical imaging, coupled with the warmth and friendliness of its staff, convinced him that this was the right place for his advanced training. The opportunity to work alongside some of the best pediatric radiologists in the world is something Mito values deeply.
Outside of his professional life, Mito is an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly of Miami teams, and enjoys playing golf and basketball. He cherishes spending time with his two young daughters, ages 1 and 3, who bring immense joy to his life.
In his downtime, Mito finds relaxation in reading, with his latest book being Tiger Woods’ biography, a fitting choice given his long-standing interest in golf. He’s also a fan of classic films, with “Top Gun” being one of his all-time favorites—a movie he enjoys revisiting time and again.
From his early days in Florida to his current role at Cincinnati Children’s, Guillermo Alfonso, Jr.’s journey reflects a blend of passion for medicine, commitment to family, and a love for sports and storytelling.
