Escape Room in Anesthesia Imaging Sharpens Nursing Skills

Escape Room in Anesthesia Imaging Sharpens Nursing Skills

Anesthesia imaging nurses take care of patients requiring anesthesia in Radiology for magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography, and nuclear medicine exams.

Anesthesia imaging (AI) nurses completed their annual skills check off using an escape room design with a Bengals theme. There were seven stations that required 36 nurses gathered into groups of four to six to solve puzzles about their nursing skills using clues that led to the next skills station.

The stations included performing the correct application of restraints, chest tube care, tracheostomy care, external ventricular devices, identification of arrhythmias, Zoll defibrillators, code management, and anesthesia medications.

The escape room is designed as a fun way for nurses to sharpen their nursing skills.

The AI educator also followed the escape room with a Kahoot game that was a fun way of testing the information learned.

The education council will be sharing their poster and innovation at Clinical Inquiry Day in November. https://centerlink.cchmc.org/echirp/shared-governance/inquiry-day

Thank you to Chris Stewart RN, AI educator, and Daniel Hoffman RN (escape room designer).
