Cincinnati Children’s Radiology Spreads Holiday Cheer Through Annual “Adopt a Family” Campaign

Each year, the Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s embraces the spirit of the holiday season through a cherished tradition: the “Adopt a Family” campaign. This annual initiative is dedicated to bringing joy to families who share a unique connection with Cincinnati Children’s, especially those facing difficult medical journeys with their children.

The campaign, coordinated this year by the MRI division, has a simple yet powerful mission: to brighten the holidays for adopted families. Through this initiative, the Radiology Department reaches out to community organizations to assist in the identification of Cincinnati Children’s patients and their families. This year’s five families were once navigating everyday life when, unexpectedly, their child received a life-altering cancer diagnosis. When these families shared their stories, they all expressed how the diagnosis devastated their families, the ongoing indescribable despair, how they felt unprepared to deal with the ups and downs of treatment, and how the loving community at the hospital provided hope during their journey. The objective of this holiday season is to lift some of this weight, showing compassion and support during what should be a season of joy.

Each year, a wish list is carefully created based on the specific needs, ages, and preferences of the adopted family. Employees across multiple divisions within Radiology then join forces to collect donations that bring these wishes to life. From toys to essential items, including furniture, every gift is chosen with thought and care, symbolizing the kindness and generosity of the Cincinnati Children’s community.

The benefits of this campaign extend both ways, as the act of giving can be as heartwarming as receiving. The “Adopt a Family” fundraiser has become a treasured tradition, offering a unique opportunity for Radiology staff to work together, share kindness, and experience the profound impact of their generosity on families navigating a challenging time.

The “Adopt a Family” campaign serves as a powerful reminder that, together, we can make a difference—one family, one gift, and one act of kindness at a time. This year’s five families, consisting of a total of twenty-four members, will enjoy 120 gifts and gift cards. The Radiology Department looks forward to spreading cheer this holiday season and making it a memorable and meaningful one for each deserving family.
