Hi, my name is Gary Schooler, and I am a new faculty member in the Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s. I specialize in liver and oncologic imaging in the thoracoabdominal section.
I grew up in Dewey, Oklahoma, a very small town in the northeast corner of the state. I enjoyed growing up where friends, fun, and nearly the entire town were just a short bike ride away. Many evenings and long summer days were spent with friends playing recreational and organized sports.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the “how and why” of things, which eventually led me to discover a passion for science and scientific exploration. During my college years, I discovered personal fulfillment and satisfaction in volunteering and realized that I could combine this with my passion for science in the field of medicine. I eventually found my way to pediatric radiology through a long and winding path of medical education and training, and I am delighted to be a part of this wonderful subspecialty.
After completing my training, I spent the first decade of my career on faculty at Duke and UT Southwestern Medical Centers, where I developed an interest in imaging of pediatric oncology and liver disease. Joining Cincinnati Children’s provides me with an opportunity to continue to contribute to the care of children in need and collaboratively explore areas of research that help advance care for children while allowing me to indulge the curiosity by asking the “how and why” questions.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, reading, and exercising. The last book I read was Eruption by Michael Crichton and James Patterson, and the last movie I watched was Oppenheimer; both were excellent.
