There is no “I” in TEAM. The cardiovascular imaging section at Cincinnati Children’s has embraced this motto of esprit de corps by combining the expertise of two distinct departments–cardiology and radiology.
Cardiovascular imaging examinations at Cincinnati Children’s (CT and MRI) are performed with both specialty physicians at the scanner, combining the expertise of both areas during image planning, acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
Behind the scenes, but especially vital, are our TEAM members comprised of CT and MRI technologists. They are involved in several key aspects including image acquisition and optimization, and the complex processing of imaging data to create 3-D pictures. Our specialty physicians rely on these images when treating patients with congenital and acquired cardiovascular disease.
The TEAM approach has resulted in optimal patient care, not only by streamlining imaging services, but by embracing a patient-centric rather than specialty-centric approach to imaging. Because Cincinnati Children’s is a large academic center with numerous students and physicians-in-training, the TEAM approach has also facilitated cross-talk among specialties, resulting in shared education and expertise that will ultimately result in the best care of our patients.
